Ghetto Birds 16

Hundreds of racing pigeons are leaving a truck in Altenglan in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate and are headed towards the German Taunus Region where their breeders wait for them. Pigeon breeding and pigeon races create street pigeons in the first place. Cities' pigeon populations are increased by racing pigeons and other bred specimen that get disoriented or exhausted and do not find their way back to their dens. Also breeders tend to cast away weak pigeons because they only want to keep the strongest.

Men has bred pigeons for more than 5000 years. The birds were used as flying mailmen and served in wars. Mankind ate them when other food was scarce. Naturalist Charles Darwin bred them what contributed to him developing his Theory of Evolution.
