Ghetto Birds 10
Andreas Kappelmann is freeing pigeons in downtown Offenbach that are trapped behind a massive bird defence system. Some of the pigeons are afraid and hiding behind the air conditioning systems. The activists of the 'Stadttaubenprojekt' often risk their health and sometimes lives to free pigeons that are trapped behind nets or stuck in them - sometimes in great height. The bird defence was installed by a pest control worker who did not check if there were pigeons behind the air conditioning system before he installed the net and the spikes. It is permitted in Germany to cut open bird defence systems if birds are trapped behind them. But municipalities and companies not only install nets and spikes: Every now and then they also attach some kind of glue to buildings in which pigeons and other birds get stuck and sometimes die. Hawks are also used to get rid of pigeons, although they do not make a difference between pigeons and other birds.
